CERES Sustainable Schools Program
The school has a Sustainable Schools Committee looking at ways to reduce energy and water use in the school, and reduce waste by re-using and recycling materials. The committee, consisting of parents and staff, applies for grants to help attain these goals, and has recently gained funding for a compost bin. Paper, cardboard, plastics and tins are collected for recycling, and children are encouraged to bring lunches with minimal waste packaging.
Kids Hope - Crossway
A special partnership has developed between Parkmore Primary School and Crossways Baptist Church through the Kids Hope programme. Specially trained mentors attend school for an hour each week to help children who may be experiencing difficulties in their personal or school life. In this highly successful programme, a child is paired with an individual ‘friend’ and together they play games and talk as the child’s resilience and coping mechanisms grow.
