The English programme teaches skills in the areas of reading, writing, speaking and listening, with emphasis on high standards in spelling and written expression.
Parkmore Primary School has been extremely successful in implementing strategies to improve student literacy. All year levels have two hours of Literacy in the classroom each day to ensure skill development.
Students are monitored closely through assessment programmes to ensure that individuals who may be at risk in the literacy area are identified early and programmes put in place to ensure success. Learning Improvement Plans are developed for individual students requiring assistance, to build up a partnership between home and school.
A Literacy Intervention Programme is provided for students who need support in the development of reading and writing skills. These students work in small groups with a special education teacher and regular follow-up work is carried out individually with the support of parents.
