At Parkmore Primary School, we foster a learning environment where students are empowered to believe in their ability to succeed in Mathematics. Our approach is centred on building essential numeracy skills and developing flexible problem-solving strategies. We aim to nurture thoughtful, precise, and confident decision-makers who can clearly articulate and justify their thinking. We are committed to supporting every student—whether they need extra help or a challenge—to become a lifelong learner with a genuine appreciation for mathematics.
Our dedicated teachers work collaboratively to assess students’ progress in line with the Victorian Curriculum. Using a rigorous data-driven approach, we ensure our teaching meets the needs of every student, closely monitoring their understanding of mathematical concepts, language, and skills.
Our Mathematics program is built around the four key proficiencies identified in the curriculum:
The Four Proficiencies are embedded in how we structure learning experiences and how students engage with tasks.
We focus on developing well-rounded mathematicians who can apply their knowledge confidently in various contexts.

At Parkmore Primary, we believe in hands-on, interactive learning experiences. Our lessons begin with engaging whole-class activities, such as skip counting, pattern recognition, maths games and practical tasks, which highlight the real-world applications of mathematical skills. Our teaching follows an explicit model backed by the overwhelming science of learning:
I do: The teacher demonstrates
We do: The teacher and class work together
You do: Students practise independently
Students are encouraged to use hands-on materials and reflect on their learning, sharing strategies and explaining their understanding in their own words. This reflection is an important part of the process, as it helps solidify their knowledge and fosters a deeper connection to the content.
Outstanding Results
Our approach is reflected in our impressive NAPLAN 2024 results:
- 87% of our Year 3 students achieved ‘Excelling’ or ‘Strong’ results (compared to 85% in surrounding schools)
- 91% of our Year 5 students achieved ‘Excelling’ or ‘Strong’ results (compared to 83% in surrounding schools)
These results are a testament to the dedication and expertise of our teachers, who work tirelessly to ensure each student’s success in mathematics.
